Google announced Android 15 in February, introducing a slew of new features and improvements. Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets are set to receive this update later this year. Samsung plans to begin beta testing Android 15 (One UI 7) this summer. Here’s an overview of what to expect.

Currently, the Android 15 beta is available on various Pixel phones. Samsung is expected to join the beta program soon, with the Galaxy S24 series likely being the first Samsung devices to receive Android 15 (One UI 7), followed by other models.

When Will Samsung Release Android 15?

Galaxy S22 May 2024 Update

Before the official release of One UI 7 (Android 15) for Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets, select regions and models will have the chance to beta test the software.

Samsung is currently testing the beta internally, but it’s not yet available to the public. If past trends continue, the first Android 15 beta for the Galaxy S24 series is expected around July or August. Last year, the Galaxy S23 received the Android 14 beta around the same time.

Following the initial beta release for the Galaxy S24, the update will gradually roll out to more devices, including the Galaxy S23 and S22 series, Galaxy Z Fold and Flip 5, and others. For example, last year, the S23 received the update in August, followed by the S22 in September.

Official Release Timeline

While it’s too early to provide exact dates, based on previous years, we expect Samsung to officially release Android 15 (One UI 7) starting with the Galaxy S24 in late October or early November. Although Samsung is known for timely updates, the large number of devices it supports means that older models, such as the Galaxy S21 Ultra, might have to wait until early 2025. The official rollout will commence once Google releases Android 15.

What to Expect from One UI 7

The One UI 7 update, based on Android 15, will bring new features from Google along with Samsung’s own enhancements. Although we’re waiting for the first beta release, several anticipated features and rumors have surfaced.

With Android 15 supporting satellite connectivity for emergencies, Samsung might integrate this feature into its flagship Galaxy S24 and potentially other models. Additionally, there are rumors of a vertical app drawer option in the settings.

Other expected features include Android 15’s new battery health mode, Google’s private space feature (despite Samsung’s existing Secure Folder), app archiving, improved multitasking, and integration with Google’s Find My Device Network. Quality-of-life enhancements like the Notification Cooldown system, partial screen sharing, enhanced security, anti-theft protection, better passkey support, and more are also anticipated. Additionally, Samsung is likely to introduce new AI features and tools.

Which Samsung Galaxy Phones Will Get Android 15, and When?

Samsung has not yet released an official list of devices that will receive the Android 15 update. However, it will likely start with the latest Galaxy S24 series in October or November, followed by the Galaxy Z Fold/Flip 5/6, Galaxy S23 family, S22 series, A-series, tablets, and more.

Samsung supports devices released in the last few years with four years of OS updates and five years of security patches. For example, the Galaxy S21 series should receive Android 15, but not Android 16. The Galaxy S20 series will not get Android 15 and One UI 7. However, Samsung has extended support to 7 years for the Galaxy S24, which is a positive step. Here’s an estimated list of Galaxy devices expected to receive Android 15 and One UI 7:
