Current State of Updates
Samsung’s Galaxy A52 series, including the Galaxy A52, A52 5G, and A52s, will no longer receive updates for new Android versions or One UI features. The recent update to One UI 6.1 is the last feature-rich update these devices will get. From now on, the Galaxy A52 models will remain on Android 14 with One UI 6.1.
Policy Changes and History
Samsung revised its update policy in 2022, promising four major Android OS upgrades for its flagship and mid-range phones. However, the Galaxy A52 series, which launched in 2021 with Android 11 and One UI 3, was only promised three major updates under the 2020 policy. Having received their third Android version update, these phones will now only get security patches.
Future Security Updates
For at least another year, the Galaxy A52 and A52 5G will receive quarterly security updates, while the Galaxy A52s will get monthly patches. Beyond that period, the availability of further security updates is uncertain. Historically, Samsung provided security updates for four years to the Galaxy A51 series, but the A52 series might see up to five years of support before updates cease.
Considering an Upgrade?
Owners of the Galaxy A52 series might be contemplating an upgrade. The Galaxy A55, which launched with Android 14 and One UI 6.1, offers a similar software experience as the A52 series. Therefore, it might be worth waiting for the next model, possibly named Galaxy A56, which could offer seven years of updates and significant performance improvements.
