Rogers Wireless has officially announced that they’ll be releasing the Samsung Galaxy Q. Reasonably thought to be their 5.3″ smartphone tablet combo hiding in the rumor mill, this appears to be something entirely different. The Q goes way back as we mentioned it close to this time last year. This however, is said to be an entry level QWERTY slider aimed at young text crazy fanatics. We have only heard a few small bits of information on this device but if recent stories dug up by SamFirmware show us anything, its that Samsung might have a sweet foldable android tablet-type device in the works.
This is unconfirmed but with technology Samsung has been working on since as early as 2009 we might be seeing the Samsung Galaxy Q come to market being a 5.3″ phone/tablet with a foldable display but without a bezel — beautiful! Similar to the Sony S2 we have seen lately only without that huge and irritating bezel. If this ends up being accurate the Sony S2 could be dead in the water before it even hits the shelves.
Te Samsung Galaxy Q’s screen size will be an inch bigger than the Samsung Galaxy S II and might take the Samsung Infuse 4G’s place as the largest-screened Samsung smartphone once the Galaxy Q reaches the U.S. The Samsung Galaxy S II has a 4.3-inch screen, while the Samsung Infuse 4G has a 4.5-inch screen. The upcoming Samsung Galaxy R has a 4.2-inch screen. And, the Samsung Galaxy Q trumps all of them in screen estate–at 5.3 inches. It’s even bigger than its closest rival, the Dell Streak 5 (Mini 5) tablet, which only has 5 inches.
The Samsung Galaxy Q is also rumored to support 3G and 4G LTE technology. Its 5.3-inch screen will be blessed with Super AMOLED Plus. And, its processor will allegedly be a very fast dual-core, 1.5-GHz beast. No word has been leaked about its battery, but we know for certain that–granting accuracy of the info we gathered–it’s going to be a power-gobbling monster.
