How To Update Slim ROM Jellybean 4.1.1 Firmware on Galaxy Captivate i897

All the users having Galaxy Captivate can now update it with Jellybean 4.1 Firmware, developed by Slim Bean ROM developers. Although, it is not an official update of Jellybean firmware comes up with few bugs, which are going to be fixed in coming days. This firmware can only be applied to the Samsung Galaxy Captivate devices.

Pre-requisites:

Step 1: To ensure that you do not lose anything, please create backup of SMS, Contacts, APN settings, Whatapp chat messages etc. [ Alternative link to backup SMS, MMS, Contacts, Calendar, events on Samsung Android Phones]

Step 2: Please ensure that you have a desired battery level to perform the procedure [ we suggest minimum 60%]. While Installing custom ROM or Rooting your device it is required to enable USB debugging. You will find USB debug enable options in Settings>>Developer option. If you still do not get it check out our detailed tutorial about Enabling USB debugging and checking batter status /Usages.

Step 3: If you have already rooted your device and install CWM recovery and going to install a ROM then please backup your Firmware ROM using CWM recovery.

Step 4: We suggest a full backup of your apps and cache data, if you are rooted use Titanium Backup [ App backup and Restore tutorial] Or you can follow this tutorial to backup without root access.

Step 5: Please disable Antivirus, Firewall or other security apps before flashing Root, Firmware or Custom ROM as them may interrupt the procedure. We also suggest to disable Samsung Kies if you are flashing through PC.

Step 6:  Please insure that you have correct driver and ADB installed on your System.

How to Update Galaxy Captivate with Jellybean 4.1 Firmware Update:

Step 1.     First of all you need to download the latest Jellybean 4.1.1 firmware update package.

Step 2.     Then, you need to connect your device to the Computer via USB data cable and transfer the downloaded zip file to the root of the SD card.

Step 3.     Important! Make sure that your Galaxy Captivate i897 is already rooted. In order to check whether your device is rooted or not, you have to download ‘Root checker’ application from Google PLAY Store.

Step 4.     After placing the downloaded zip file on SD card, you need to unplug it from your Computer and turn your device off to enter into recovery mode.

Step 5.     To get into the recovery mode, you need to press and hold the Volume Up button and OK button together then press the Power button.

Step 6.     Once you are in recovery mode, you need to select ‘Wipe data/factory reset’ option and again select ‘Wipe Cache partition’ to clear all the current cache from the device.

Step 7.     Then, you need to select ‘install zip from sd card’ > ‘choose zip from sd card’. Locate the downloaded zip file from sd card and select the same to flash the ROM on your Galaxy Captivate. The whole process may take around 6-7 minutes to complete.

Step 8.     After the completion of the installation process, you need to select the ‘+++Go Back+++’ option and then select ‘reboot system now’ to restart your Captivate in ICS Android 4.0.3 firmware.

Step 9.     Once again, select ‘Wipe data/factory reset’ and ‘Wipe Cache partition’ to get away from the force close issue and restart your device once again in normal mode. To check whether you have successfully updated or not, navigate to Settings > About Phone > Firmware Version, where you will see 4.1 as firmware version.
