Procedure to update Samsung Galaxy S2 with ICS 4.0.4 firmware update:

Step 1: Install Odin, but if you have it previously open it and reboot your phone so as to enter it in Download mode. To do so, press and hold volume down + center + power buttons for few seconds until a green robot is shown indicating the Download Mode has been entered.

Step 2: Now connect your phone to the computer keeping Odin open, once you have connected you will see the ID: COM section is turned yellow indicating that you have installed all the drivers successfully.

Step 3: After that you have to install USB Drivers in your computer and then move to the path “Settings > Wireless & Network > USB Settings” ensuring that “Samsung KIES” option is ticked before connecting your phone to the computer.

Step 5: As soon as the device will be successfully updated it will be restarted, and the moment you see the home screen or language preference setting options disconnect and turn off your phone in recovery mode. You can enter recovery mode by pressing and holding Volume Up button + the Home key button and while holding that button turn on your phone.

Step 6: Now in recovery mode select “Wipe data/factory reset” & “Wipe Cache partition” to clear all the cache data in your device. Once you have done with it select “reboot system now” as the device reboots check whether the firmware update has been applied or not from the path “Settings > About phone > Firmware version” where it will be mentioned as XXLQ5.

Note:

In case if your device is not updated and gets in boot loop mode, then you have to again clear the cache from the recovery mode and restart the procedure from beginning.
